GROUP THERAPY

Our lives are lived in groups; those of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, culture, and society.

Therapy in groups can embolden us for a life lived in community.

Process groups focus on the immediate dynamics between group members, offering a unique opportunity to address the dynamics that arise between people in a supportive setting with others who are committed to personal growth. In group, you can:

  • learn about your impact on others and practice speaking directly to how others affect you

  • practice new ways of being; set boundaries, learn how to let others in, practice vulnerability, figure out how much of yourself feels safe enough to share

  • gain experience and confidence in navigating conflict, attraction, desire, microaggressions and dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression

  • understand and express your immediate experience as a whole person, receiving support from others and supporting others to do the same.

I offer process groups as stand-alone therapy or in addition to individual therapy to support people in achieving their therapeutic goals. I have facilitated numerous process groups and therapy groups and participated in even more to experience first hand the power of group. I have extensive training in group therapy, including ongoing training and experience as a group member myself.

DBT Skills Group are quite different than process groups, but offer advantages to those seeking to learn, practice, and apply skills for managing intense distress, regulating (and processing) emotions, navigating relationships more effectively, and mindfulness. I have been providing DBT skills groups to adults and teens for a number of years, and have seen first-hand how these skills can be life changing.
